Introduction
The Australian Academy of English Studies (AAES) offers English programs to
international students, teachers and visitors. These programs are designed to
develop skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing in English. Participants
will be immersed in Australian culture and learn about the flora, fauna, landforms,
history and the Australian way of life.
AAES is based in a beautiful area
of northern New South Wales, near the most easterly point, Byron Bay. Our academic
staff is fully qualified with years of successful teaching to assist participants’
development and confidence in English.
Course
Details top
The Australian Academy of English Studies caters for bookings with a minimum
of 12 participants per group. We welcome enquiries from all groups wishing to
learn more about Australia, the English language, and/or the Australian education
system. These intensive courses are designed for two, three or four weeks, and
learning will occur in both formal and informal settings. Tutorials and field
trips will be the key components of this course. In tutorials, specialised staff
will focus on speaking, listening, reading and writing in standardised English.
These tutorials are designed to be fun, motivating and interesting, and will
include creative arts and various games and activities for developing English
communication skills.
Field trips will include the Byron Bay area, the Tweed Valley and the Gold Coast. Participants will have the opportunity to cuddle a koala, feed kangaroos, observe other native fauna and flora, shop in famous Surfers’ Paradise, and visit spectacular Australian beaches. English language and conversational English will continue to be the focus at all of these locations.
Students will be placed with suitable Australian families, who will also assist their development of their English language skills and enhance their understanding of the Australian culture.
Prerequisites top
As this is an English language immersion, all aspects of this course will be
delivered in English, therefore it is a prerequisite of the course for participants
to have at least basic English language and comprehension skills. Our goal is
to immerse students in the English language through a wide variety of activities,
and so English usage is recommended at all times.
It is also a prerequisite that students
organise their own airfares to and from Australia, and have comprehensive travel
insurance for the duration of the course.
Staff
top
Expert, friendly and supportive staff, with years of English teaching experiences
at all levels, will competently tutor and maximise the student’s English
communication skills. The tutors also have a wealth of knowledge about Australian
society, culture and the local area.
The course coordinators have Bachelor
and Master degrees in teaching with further qualifications in TESOL (Teaching
of English to Speakers of Other Languages). As the coordinators are also Australian
authors, they have an excellent command of the English language, which will
be used to develop the students’ skills.
Accommodation
and Meals top
The course fee includes homestay accommodation and meals. Participants will
be placed with an Australian family who will provide a bedroom and organise
transportation to and from their homestay accommodation for the duration of
the course.
The homestay family will provide
breakfast, a packed lunch, and dinner. Such meals are intended to be indicative
of the Australian culture. Participants will be responsible for their own meals
when attending field trips.
